advertisement

many people have problems with cigarette ads because they dont feel they show the truth. most feel that they should focus more on the effects smoking would have on those who use them. however, the cigarette companies aren't stupid, so they show images like this one. a diverse group of people having fun and enjoying themselves. They do this because they want their product to have universal appeal. and like most, this one seems to be directed towards teens or young adults. they want people to think that their product is going to make them enjoy their life more. i dont smoke but i believe that a lot who do didn't start by seeing it in a magazine. most start because a friend introduced them to it. I'm neutral on the subject. i dont care what they advertise because the advertisements aren't making you do anything. if you want to smoke, you will.

I definately agree with what you wrote about this advertisement. It is trying to sell cigarettes to a universal crowd by putting a group of college kids of all different kinds of ethnicities having a good time together. Ofcourse it looks like they are all having a good time so the audience can look at this ad and say, "hey cigarettes make you happy," the ad is in a way misleading because it doesn't even bother to acknowledge the disadvantages of smoking cigarettes, but then again why would they do that? they are trying to sell their product.
